Meet the Writers

Aaron Chen

A senior, Aaron Chen is involved with Speech & Debate, NHS, GRYS, the City Chess Club and E-Club. Aaron has represented City at national level events for 3 years, including earning the title of 2021 National Speech and Debate Tournament Champion. A correspondent for The City Voice, Aaron reports on current events and analyzes political and social issues important to a dynamically changing generation of young adults.

Anna Paetschow

Hi my name is Anna! I’m a seventh grader and I am interested in a wide range of writing. I enjoy reading and hanging out with animals. I have a dog, two guinea pigs, and two crested geckos. I ride OTTBs every other week. I also do Odyssey Of The Mind and my team made it to world finals last year!

Chloe Diehm

Hello! I’m Chloe Diehm, and this is my second year at the City Voice. I’m in 8th Grade, and I also participate in National Honors Society and Student Ambassadors. Some of my interests include animals, photography, traveling, and more. I hope to see you around the school!

My name is Claudia and I’m a junior at City! I enjoy studying politics, law, and history. My other interests include music, art, fashion, reading, and spending time in nature.

Helen Engbers

My name is Helen, I am a ninth grade student at City. I enjoy writing, sewing and playing sports. I have two dogs and 3 cats.

Keira Mei Harrell

My name is Keira Mei, I’m an 11th grader at City this year. I went to John Ball Zoo School in 6th grade and have been going to City ever since. I play the cello and also enjoy playing piano in my free time.

Hello! My name is Krishna Mano and I am an 9th Grader at City High School. This is my third year writing for the City Voice and first year as an editor. Apart from the newspaper, I am part of the Speech and Debate team, Student Ambassadors, and a board member of the NHS. Lia Lin

Hiii! My name is Lia and I’m a sophmore here at City! A few fun facts about me: I’m one of the student ambassador co-presidents, the historian on the NHS executive board, the Chinese Club spearhead, flute section leader in the band program, part of the City Voice, and the class of 2025 student government president! Outside of school I’m involved in Youth Grant Committee or YGC, I’m the executive outreach director for GENUp MI, and I play tennis for Ottawa Hills. Some of my hobbies include spending time with family and friends, reading, playing tennis, and playing my flute.

Lucia Maher

Hi! My name is Lucia Maher and I am the Co-President for Student Ambassadors this year. This is my fourth year at city, and I am a sophomore. I play soccer as a midfielder for MSA in the fall and for Union in the spring. I also love reading! Some of my favorite books are “Song of Achilles”, “Daisy Jones and the Six”, “Circe” and “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo”. Hello, my name is Luke Fann. I love to read and write myself into a fantastical realm, but I love all genres. Of course, such a task requires assistance from my parents and older brother. I’ve feasted on alligators and tamed beasts like alpacas (my favorite animal), but none of that compares to my greatest weapon: a pencil. I am an editor here for the City Voice, and this is my second year writing for it.

Hello my name is Mr Backpack,
I am an IB student here at City like the rest of you,
I am student who writes for the City Voice, and prefers
to keep his Identity sealed. I am a ghost writer that writes
The truth and the truth only while at the same time I carry
The weight of city on my back along with its successes,
Problems, and losses. However like a City student I am professional
And keep these traits to myself tucked away in a backpack,
And when something needs to be addressed. I write
and project these truths for justice. I am the Voice of City

This is my second year at the City Voice, and my forth at City High Middle. I enjoy fiction and sports writing as well and many other genres.
