Well that was one heck of a football weekend, and the playoff rankings showed just that. In this article I will break down the current rankings and what could happen in the next week.
- Georgia
- Michigan
- Alabama
- Cincinnati
- Oklahoma State
- Notre Dame
- OSU
- Ole Miss
- Baylor
- Oregon
- Michigan State
- BYU
- Iowa
- Oklahoma
- Pittsburgh
- Wake Forest
- Utah
- NC State
- San Diego State University
- Clemson
- Houston
- Arkansas
- Kentucky
- Louisiana
- Texas A and M
The biggest game this weekend is Alabama vs. Georgia for the SEC Championship. If Alabama loses this game it is most likely not going to make the playoffs. If Georgia loses it will most likely still make the playoffs but there is the slight possibility that it won’t. After all it’s college football, so everything is prone to destruction.
1st Scenario
#1 Georgia beats #3 Alabama
#2 Michigan beats #13 Iowa
#4 Cincinnati beats #21 Houston
#5 OKSU beats #9 Baylor
This is the most likely scenario in my opinion, and the rankings would shift to:
- Georgia
- Michigan
- Cincinnati
- OKSU
- Notre Dame
- Alabama
After this we would see Georgia beating OKSU and Michigan beating Cincinnati. After that the National Championship would end up in Georgia’s hands.
2nd Scenario
#1 Georgia loses to #3 Alabama
#2 Michigan beats #13 Iowa
#4 Cincinnati beats #21 Houston
#5 OKSU beats #9 Baylor
- Michigan
- Alabama
- Georgia
- Cincinnati
The rematch. After Alabama beats Georgia they would play again, and Alabama would win again coming off of the much-needed hype win. Michigan would play OKSU, who beat another top ten team, giving them the slight edge over Cincinnati and the perfect season. Michigan wins and wins again. Giving them their first National Championship.
3rd Scenario
#1 Georgia loses to #3 Alabama
#2 Michigan loses to #13 Iowa
#4Cincinatti loses to #21 Houston
#5 OKSU loses to #9 Baylor
- Alabama
- Georgia
- Notre Dame
- Michigan
This is an interesting scenario considering who each team lost to and who they beat. In this scenario, Michigan would have two losses, but both to top 15 teams who are in most cases worse than them, and they did beat Ohio State in the game. In my opinion that gives them an edge over Cincinnati, who lost to a Houston team that lost to Texas Tech. Michigan gets the edge here, and the rest is pretty self explanatory, Notre Dame lost to Cincinnati who is now the number 5 team because they still only have one loss, but Notre Dame looks red hot going into this playoff and edges out Cincinnati as well. Michigan beats Alabama because they really are the better team. Georgia beats Notre Dame by a mile and cruises past Michigan for the National Championship.
4th and final scenario
#1 Georgia beats Alabama
#2 Michigan loses to #13 Iowa
#4 Cincinnati beats #21 Houston
#5 OKSU beats #9 Baylor
- Georgia
- Cincinnati
- OKSU
- Michigan
Kind of like the previous scenario, except OKSU instead of Notre Dame. OKSU has a top ten win in a conference championship and Michigan doesn’t. That gives them the edge in my book. Georgia beats Michigan. OKSU beats Cincinnati. OKSU upsets Georgia and shocks the world with a national championship! Georgia has another heartbreak in OT in the national championship on a 30 yard heave that lands in a receivers arms for the game winning touchdown!
