GOV. Ron DeSantis drops out of presidential race

This past Sunday, January 21st, 2024 Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that he will be dropping out of the 2025 presidential race following the Iowa caucus. The results of the Iowa caucus have shown that 51% of Republican voters are planning on voting for Donald J. Trump, whereas only 21% of Republican voters were planning on voting for Ron Desantis. Desantis has publicly announced his support and endorsement of twice impeached President Donald Trump, following his suspension of his presidential campaign. This decision was made conveniently 2 days before the New Hampshire primary elections. After the results of the Iowa caucus, the dominant winner Donald Trump was outvoted compared to his opponents by 30%.

Ron Desantis said “It’s clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance,” this shows that Desantis is aware of his low chance of winning the primary election and instead of fighting against his opponent Trump he is willing to cooperate for the good of the Republican party. Trump’s running for office in 2025 is a concern for the Democratic party and the future of our country and democracy. The collaboration between these two politicians who are both infamous for their controversial stances on equity and equality, abortion access, and immigration will now dominate the republican party. Donald Trump has continued to make false claims to his party convincing republicans that the 2020 election was stolen from him and he is still the dominant republican candidate, now with the support of Desantis who is known for his attacks on LGBTQ+ rights and the banning of books and removal of American history in public education Trump’s chances for the presidency seem to be
increasing.

A lot can change because Trump’s criminal case is scheduled to begin in March of this year, and he will be facing multiple criminal charges along with the fact that he is officially blocked from the GOP primary ballot in two states. Ron Desantis tweeted “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” He is referring to his endorsement of his opponent Donald Trump. This topic will be changing and can have many different outcomes, many Americans are intrigued by how this collaboration of opponents will impact voters and the republican party. For now, stay up to date with politics and news relating to both Trump and Desantis and it is important to educate yourself and get your news and information from reliable sources to ensure you will be able to vote and be knowledgeable about accurate information.
