Fall officially began recently on Saturday, September 23. As the temperature is beginning to cool
down, we are heading into sweater season. The leaves are beginning to change colors, and the
days seem to be getting shorter. There are many reasons to love fall, whether you enjoy opening
up your fall wardrobe or you enjoy festive fall activities such as picking apples or going to a
pumpkin patch. I’m sure you will want to add one of these seasonal activities to your fall bucket
list.
1. Attend the Fulton Street Farmers Market
The Fulton Street Market’s main seasonal hours are 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, from May – October, and the second season hours are 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Saturdays from November – April. A great way to enter fall is to visit the farmers market to see an array of local vendors selling handmade arts and crafts, locally grown fruits and vegetables, handmade snacks and more. If you want to buy decorations for fall, the farmers market is a great place to look.
2. Take a trip to Robinette’s Orchard
This is arguably one of the best places to visit to get into the fall spirit, not to mention an excuse to indulge in donuts and cider. There is something for everyone to enjoy – you can choose between apple picking, hayrides, a corn maze, a petting zoo, or just going to the shop to enjoy a variety of endless donuts and cider.
3. Prepare for Halloween
Many people love fall for Halloween – a great way to get into the spirit is to decorate, whether it’s shopping for Halloween decorations or making your own. A great activity to do with family or friends to prepare for Halloween and the fall season is to carve pumpkins. You can also buy your costume or design your own costume, a great project to let your imagination and creativity shine.
4. Show or Movie marathon
Fall can be very busy for students so a great way to take a break from school and other activities is to hunker down and watch a fall, or Halloween themed movie or show. You can get into the fall mood by catching up on Gilmore Girls or by watching a movie marathon of Hocus Pocus.
5. Watch Football
For many, football is the highlight of the fall season. In fact, the slogan ‘Food, Family, and Football’ is what often drives many people during the fall season. Many students look forward to heading to the football games on Friday and representing their school in the student section.
6. Bake
When I think of fall, I can’t help but think about desserts. Whether you are baking for fun, for creativity, CAS hours, or to try to perfect a recipe for Thanksgiving, it is a great way to get into the fall spirit. Some of the best recipes you should try are baking an apple pie, homemade donuts, cinnamon rolls, pumpkin pie, and sweet potato pie. You can also make fun Halloween themed desserts like zombie brain cupcakes, or a spiderweb cake.
7. Go on a Walk
A great way to soak in the fall season is by going on a walk and looking at all the beautiful leaves changing colors on the trees. In fact, my favorite part of fall is watching the colors change around me and I don’t even believe that fall has started until the leaves change. Since we live in Michigan we have the blessing of being able to experience all 4 seasons and it is very nice to take a walk and appreciate the beauty of our world.
