Gallagher Girls Book Review

Ally Carter’s series Gallagher Girls is an incredible set of six books that center around friendship, powerful women, and suspense. It’s the story of a secret all-girls academy that trains the next generation of government spies and assassins. The books follow the main character, Cammie, the chameleon and pavement artist who no one ever sees (a beneficial thing for a spy), her roommate Bex, a British MI6 descendant, and her second roommate Liz, a child prodigy from Alabama.

In the first book they are forced to room with and eventually befriend the daughter of a cosmetic heiress and America’s next president, Macey. The girls go through a wide variety of challenges throughout the series, including discovering another spy school, getting to know new students, and dealing with an underground manipulative group who are out to destroy world peace.

I would highly suggest this series, especially for middle schoolers but even for high schoolers. It’s interesting to learn about how undercover spies operate (even if most of it isn’t real), and how difficult it is to have different identities all the time. Also, the sisterhood of the Gallagher Academy is one that’s unmatched by any other book I’ve read. It’s geared towards younger readers but it still carries the same messages for older readers and is an easy read. Each book is pretty short and really fast paced and filled with memory spray, edible code messages, and covert operations lessons. It’s a great series for anyone looking for an easy read about strong young women who are training to be the masterminds behind the next generation of global leaders.
