Title: New From Here
Author: Kelly Yang
Genre: Realistic Fiction
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars!

New From Here is based on Kelly Yang’s family’s experience during the COVID 19 pandemic. It reflects her son Tilden’s journey as his family tries to escape the virus by moving to America. The main character, Knox, not only has to leave his home in China, but he also has to leave his dad behind. Knox can’t escape from his mean brother, Bowen, and moving to America leads to even more problems. Is fleeing really an escape, or will it be enough to break a family apart?
I would definitely recommend this book because it shows a family’s journey through the coronavirus pandemic that a lot of people could probably relate to in some way. It’s also packed with amazing, figurative language and word choice. If you’re a fan of Front Desk (also by Kelly Yang), you should definitely try another one of her books—New From Here! I also recommend this book to everyone—those who have read Front Desk, those who haven’t, and those who have ever felt like a purple goldfish.
