Earth Day Read: Animals take back the cities

Animals have taken advantage of the lack of people in the streets due to the world wide quarantines. Generic animals that we are accustomed to seeing, such as wild turkeys, raccoons, and squirrels are especially prominent, but more interesting animals have also been spotted. A brazen fox has been seen in San Francisco near the Golden Gate Bridge and a wild boar in Collserola, Spain. The Covid-19 crisis is having another effect on less wild animals. Animals accustomed to getting fed by people, especially tourists, have been going further into cities in search of food. The Saki deer in China have even been seen going into subway tunnels. One report from Thailand showed monkeys on a street corner fighting over a yogurt container. All of this is just a reminder to people that this land was the animals’ first and it is their home that we have taken over.
