Mental Health After Oxford

After the tragic events that took place on November 30, 2021, at Oxford High School, schools have been more cautious and candid about safety. Many students, especially in Michigan, have been overtaken by overwhelming feelings and fear. Over 70 schools in Michigan have closed due to threats, and now that schools are reopening, children and teenagers are more anxious and on-edge.

Many suggest that parents sit down with their children to discuss the tragedy. Adolescents are experts on covering up their grief and trauma, so I’d encourage you to reach out to others and check in with your loved ones to ask how they’re doing. If you know of someone struggling, don’t hesitate to help to make sure that everyone around you is feeling safe. On behalf of The City Voice, I’m very sorry to anyone struggling during these tough times.
