On November 24, 2021, the verdicts were read for the three men involved in the murder of Ahmaud Arbery. On February 23, 2020, Ahmaud Arbery, a 25 year old man was shot and killed while out jogging. The convicted murderers — Travis McMichael, Gregory McMichael, and William R. Bryan — are scheduled to go on trial beginning on February 7, 2022, and will be charged with federal charges in addition to their state charges.
While the verdict was being read for Travis McMichael, son of Gregory McMichael, a man in the background can be heard shouting for joy and whooping upon finding out that Travis McMichael was found guilty. He was removed from the room and the reading continued.
All three men were charged with at least 3 counts of Felony Murder. Both Travis and Gregory McMichael were charged with 4 counts. The McMichaels were also both charged with two counts of aggravated assault. All three men were charged with false imprisonment, and criminal attempt to commit felony. Travis McMichael was the only man charged with malice murder as he was the one to pull the trigger.
