City Musical Announced

City’s theatre department has been around for years, performing musical after musical each year, and this year’s musical has just been announced! After a very long elimination round of potential shows in the choir room on Tuesday, May 10, at precisely 2:58 pm, there was only one show left upon the whiteboard that Mrs. Degenhart, City’s choir teacher, hadn’t torn up: Into The Woods. That’s right, City’s 2022-2023 musical will be Into The Woods.

For those of you who don’t know, Into The Woods is essentially one large crossover episode of everyone’s favorite fairy tales, such as Jack and the Beanstalk, or Little Red Riding Hood, where they all help each other out of their unfortunate situations. Into The Woods, created by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim, was first performed in San Diego at the Old Globe Theatre on December 4, 1986, with a total of 50 performances. Later, it opened on Broadway on November 5, 1987. It ran for a total of 756 shows, and has gone on a national tour and had several revivals, including a Disney movie adaptation.

So there we have it folks. After a long wait, we’ve finally gotten our answer. The audition dates haven’t been released yet, and we aren’t even sure when the musical will be performed, however we do know that the information regarding Into The Woods will be given out soon. In the meantime, stay tuned for important dates regarding auditions and performances!
