To wrap up this week’s trailer reveals, Disney has released the first look at their new show Ms. Marvel! In all honesty, I was skeptical when I first heard that this project was coming out, but seeing the trailer has only confirmed that this next step in the MCU is going to be just as amazing if not more. Ms. Marvel follows the story of Kamala Khan, a high schooler who dreams of being a superhero. Specifically she is a fan of Captain Marvel, donning her own costume version of Captain Marvel multiple times throughout the trailer. Ever since coming onto the comic scene fans have fallen in love with the teen from Pakistan with big dreams, and now it is her time to shine on the big screen. Catchy music and stunning graphics immediately stand out in the trailer.
There are not many details about what the plot of this show is going to center around, though it feels poised to become connected to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. I think fans can expect to be able to explore some of the bigger storylines at play in the MCU to be continued through this show. Yet the show feels like something new. It is representative of Marvel’s continual shift to finding new and engaging stories as well as finding new ways to share these stories. Especially in taking on a culture that has thus far been under-represented in the MCU. It must also be mentioned that there already seems to be a few differences from the comics, mainly Kamala’s power. Her powers have been adapted from being super stretchy to something that looks a little more visually interesting. She now appears to have some sort of energy manipulation power; stretchiness does continue to remain one of her powers though. The writers of the show promise an action filled adventure centered around the theme of family, friendship, and finding out who you are in a big crazy world.
Ms. Marvel is not a show you are going to want to miss and will begin streaming on Disney+ June 8th.
