NSPA Honors City Voice As National Innovation Pacemaker Finalist

On Wednesday, The City Voice was honored to be recognized by the National Scholastic Press Association as a 2022 Innovation Pacemaker Finalist! NSPA has offered the Pacemaker, “the association’s preeminent award,” almost since its founding in 1921, annually honoring “the best of the best” in high school journalism. Pacemakers in divisions including Newspaper/Newsmagazine, Broadcast, and Yearbook have been offered for decades, but the new Innovation Pacemaker was offered for the first time ever this school year.

The new competition was created to “encourage out-of-the-box thinking and reward student media for the courage to take chances to improve service to their customers, readers and communities,” and The City Voice was honored as one of only nine finalists in the country for last spring’s Earth Day Live Special Project, produced in collaboration with the E-Club and the ESS program. Thank you to everyone who worked with us on this amazing project!
