Last year, Netflix’s innovative superhero drama The Umbrella Academy dominated the internet for a few weeks after its February premiere. The City Voice even wrote a review of it at the time, which you can read here. In short, the show follows a dysfunctional family of seven adoptive siblings who come back together for their abusive father’s funeral, only to stick around to solve the mystery of his possible murder and prevent an impending apocalypse. Also they happen to be superheroes. The show was a brilliantly funny new take on the superhero genre that quickly gained a huge following for its quirky and deeply compelling storytelling.
Fans were so invested in the show that many were deeply upset by the cliffhanger ending of the show’s first season. Luckily, Netflix announced this week that longtime fans will not have much longer to wait. Season 2 of The Umbrella Academy is officially arriving on Netflix on July 31st, 2020. Netflix announced the new release date with a video of the cast recreating a popular scene from the show’s first episode, complete with a new quarantine take. You can watch the whole thing above.
